A restorative way for movement is isometrics; muscular action in which tensions without joint strain. The physiology for the isometric is no limb motion which is often a relief to someone who is bed ridden or not ambulatory. Isometric response is mediated by combined central and peripheral afferent input to medullary cardiovascular centers. Circulation, it is just as simple as that stress reduction, providing routine and improvement of mental health. My methodology is not therapy, but a game format for the brain. Having a objective to win for that game while using the exercise to increase circulation.
Here are some examples of a restorative model for end of life care
Apples to Apples: Grip Strength
Would you rather: Upper body isometric
Imagine If : Lower body isometric
Time will tell: Orientation isometric
No lift or transfer is required to participate in a restorative model, in this case it can be done from a reclined position or in a chair. Adapted based on the condition and taking into consideration the instructions of medical personnel. What’s the moral of this story, movement is central ideology to living. Let’s not underestimate the capacities of elders while they are transitioning, giving them purpose for using their bodies and brains.
