Stoic

The Stoics identified the path to eudaimonia with a life spent practicing virtue and living in accordance with nature. An emotional resilience to misfortune.

A virtue that is critically important to the work of end of life care. In my humble opinion, eudaimonia or happiness is a choice, the highest human good in an older Greek tradition. Acting bravely and temperately are examples of this path I choose to take. To exercise prudence or practical wisdom rather then theoretical. Choosing a person center approach, rather then one size fits all. Adjusting and adapting as the situation progress during the transition from life to death.

A stoic demeanor, gentle eyes, and a listening, to understand before acting, doing or systematically pursuing a particular direction. I found this particularly true when my father passed away and the community was grieving, I open the doors, turned on the music and bid them inside to help as we disassemble his life’s treasures and trophies. It was no longer about my grief, but settling their hearts, consoling their souls which in turn helped me.
