Bean Bag Hat

Frantic or fatigued, perhaps you need time to think and prioritize what you doing, or what has to be done. I have been there is here is what helped… slow down, that is what a respite careworker does, gives you time, even if you just need to sleep.

Or try this little trick to make you stand taller and slow down. Place a bean bag on your head. I know it sounds silly but think of as a weighted blanket for your brain. It reminds you to stand up tall, get your posture in check and most importantly it requires you to slow down your walk. Can’t be frantic with a bean bag on your head.

You can use this tool for the elder too… make it a game when it’s time to reflect. An orientation, who, when and where they are at this moment in place. If disoriented, use a bean bag hat to remind them of the time, date and who they are. The pressure is grounding, balancing and it requires them to sit up straight, pay attention to the directions. Place the bean bag on your head and then on theirs… grounding your head.

There were moments of indecision where we are overthinking, even questioning what we are doing. I understand these calamities. Very little risk in trying this modality, to put a weight on your brain, to walk with it as you slow down your gait and think. If you do try this, I would like your feedback and comments.
